The fire-resistant data media cabinets are available in different fire classes which indicate the resistance against a well-established fire in number of minutes. The fire classes are called 60DIS and 120DIS meaning 60 or 120 minutes of fire protection.
Data media are extremely sensitive to heat. Even at temperatures of just over 50°C all information can be destroyed. Paper documents on the other hand can withstand temperatures of up to 175°C. This means that in a fire, data media stored in a document cabinet are destroyed after just a few minutes.
